Hearing the Word is CPI’s first program. As a weekly e-newsletter series, clergy and the faithful benefit from brief Gospel commentaries that offer insight into the Sunday Gospel readings. Commentaries are archived to access any time.
The program commences at the beginning of the 2025 liturgical year on December 1, 2024, and continues through the entire three-year cycle of Sunday readings.
Hearing the Word begins with a focused study of what our Lord is communicating in Scripture. Two perspectives – scholarly and personal – flesh out the message and meaning of each Sunday’s Gospel through two easy to understand Gospel commentaries: From the Pulpit and From the Pew.
Hearing the Word is available through its weekly e-newsletter and by accessing the archive on this webpage. Gospel commentaries are available the Friday preceding the Sunday Gospel reading.
Hearing the Word provides two perspectives of each Sunday’s Gospel – scholarly and personal.
From the Pulpit focuses on scriptural meaning, as scholars provide context around Gospel meaning. Through explanations of how the ancient text tells the story of God’s Good News, From the Pulpit contextualizes the divine Word in ways that believers can make it their own.
Hearing the Word provides two perspectives of each Sunday’s Gospel – scholarly and personal.
From the Pew is a believer’s perspective on how the Gospels remain meaningful to us today. Selected lay contributors share how God’s Word speaks to us individually on a personal level.
